GENERAL
INFO
The Venetians used to call Zakynthos
Zante, or fiore di levante meaning 'the flower of the East'. It is the
southernmost island in Eptanisa, 8.5 nautical miles south of Cephallonia and
one of Lord Byron's favourite Greek islands.
|
Zakynthos is a green fertile island with
olive trees, vineyards and a rainbow of flowers, offering to the visitors an
easy going pace of life, vibrant night life coupled with small friendly resorts
with excellent beaches.
The western seashore of the
island, from Schinari to Marathias, is rocky, with high cliffs and sea-worn
rocks, caves and small sandy bays.
|
|
 |
The eastern shore of the
island, facing Peloponnese, is flat with many beautiful, sandy beaches,
small ports and several hills.
Due to the Venetian occupation, the
island has preserved an Italian and Venetian influence.
