HISTORY

There are many theories concerning the origin of the name Paxoi.

The island's emblem is the trident, attributed to the ancient god Poseidon, who according to the mythology created the island.

The history of the island is similar to those of the rest of the Ionian islands, meaning successive occupation by Turks, Venetians e.t.c until 1864, when the islands were given back to Greece. paxoi-bell-tower
