WHERE TO GO, WHAT TO SEE

The Island offers a large range of marvellous beaches, from long white sandy beaches to small deserted rocky ones. The most famous of them are Platia Ammo, Kapsali, Diakoti and Paleopoli.

kythira-2

Paleochora is a fortified village of Kythira situated in a lower level than the surrounding hills and can not be seen from the sea, in order to protect itself from the many pirates' raids. Despite that protection, the famous pirate Barbarossa managed to find it and destroyed it in 1537, selling all the inhabitants as slaves. It was never rebuilt since then for the reason that it is considered as a place of bad fortune.

The castles of the island, the most impressive of them, the medieval castle of the main town, Kythira, the monasteries and the churches, will impress a visitor.
