Far away from all the other Ionian Islands, Kythira (otherwise Cerigo) is situated in Southern Greece between the foot of southern Peloponnese and Crete, in the crossroads of the Ionian and the Aegean Sea.

kythira-island1 The island is mountainous with a lot of valleys leading to the sea, offering the visitor some astonishing beaches.

Due its geographical position and consequently the successive change of many populations, the cultural heritage of Kythira is very rich. The architecture of island consists of a mixture of styles, namely from Venice, Crete and Mani.

Kythira belongs to the Ionian islands, only for historical reasons. Nowadays it is an administrative department of the Prefecture of Piraeus .
